National Police Week 2014
National Police Week 2014
National Police Week is a time to honor those brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their life in the line of duty and in recognition of the sacrifice of those loved and left behind.
In 1962, JFK signed a proclamation which designates May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that dates falls as National Police Week. On average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 53 hours. Since the first in line of duty death in 1791, more than 19,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Throughout this week, and always, please have in your thoughts the men and women who go to work each day as the protectors of society never knowing if that day may be their last. - Jennifer M. Hansen, Public Information Officer
