Date: June 28, 2016
RE: Marina Fire
The Marina Fire, which is located north of Lee Vining and crossed over a portion of Highway 395, is
now at 74% containment and the total acreage burned remains at 654 acres. A total of 517 personnel are assigned to the incident, including fourteen hand crews, eighteen engines, two dozers, five helicopters, and three water tenders.
Thunderstorms currently forecasted for the area can exacerbate the fires ability to grow and increase the potential for new fires in the area. Existing wind conditions are forming clouds of dust and ash that resembles smoke in the burned area. The next few days should see drier storms however there is a chance of rain which can cause flash flooding and rock slides in the burn area. Area residents and travelers need to be aware of the possibility of down canyon debris flows. Affected residents should seek higher ground outside of the burn area. A flash flood warning for the burn area and Highway 395 will be issued if the National Weather Service sees storm cells with rain.
The investigation to determine the exact cause and origin of the fire is ongoing.
